Being A First Time Parent…
“Being a first time parent there are so many factors that go into making decisions for your child, education being one of the most monumental. I have been a stay at home mom to my son Liam (who is now 3) and his primary care taker / nurturer. Prior to starting at the School of Nirvana, he had yet to have much exposure to social situations with other kids his age. His father, Pete, and myself had gone to great lengths to ensure he was involved in activities involving other children as well as creating structured time to teach and learn. However, inevitably the time comes when the horizon is in need of broadening. As a parent you hold high standards to what you feel and know your child deserves. We weren’t willing to settle for just any school, and compromise the list of “non-negotibles” we had for Liam’s education. At some point I began to think our expectations were a bit too high, and perhaps we needed to become a bit more flexible. That was of course until a friend had stumbled upon the School of Nirvana and encouraged me to look into the school and the curiculum. It was everything we wanted for Liam and more! The School of Nirvana not only follows methods other top of the line schools follow, but is affordable to our family of only one income! Brionna integrates a mind body and spirit element which was at the top of our list. Meditation, yoga, uplifting chanting to get the kids motivated and excited to learn.. and so much more! As a mother, it is so important to know that when your baby is transitioning from home to a brand new environment with new people and new routines, that he is going to receive the same loving, maternal nurturing you would provide. Concerns like “what if he gets homesick, or sad, or has a hard time adjusting” are naturally brought to the forefront. Brionna from day one has gone to great lengths to assure Liam is comfortable, engaged, and encouraged! He loves and adores her (and her daughter Nola) like they are members of our family. There is a total open line of communication, as well as a connection through different platforms to stay informed on their day to day activities and lessons, with daily emailed recaps of their day, what they learned, the snacks they had, and how each child contributed to the day! One of the biggest reliefs was flexibility in setting our own personalized schedule. Being able to choose which days and what hours work best for your family is a luxury most schools are unable to provide!
When Liam first started school (not even a full year ago ) he was barely putting together full sentences. He now is counting in Spanish, reciting all of the colors in Spanish, knows every shape, number, and letter. He went from not being able to hold a pencil, to tracing his letters and words beautifully! Brionna has worked side by side with us potty training Liam, as well as instilling healthy habits of hygiene and routine. He washes his hands after every meal without having to be told, takes his shoes off the minute we enter our home, takes pride in cleaning his room, and is now initiating conversation and play with other kids of every age! It goes without being said how absolutely grateful we are and have been to find Brionna and the School Of Nirvana, for not only bringing Pete and I relief, but providing Liam with a safe and love based space to learn and grow!
